FloSolve proudly installed the PALL filtration system on the Tellus 68 Hydraulic oil tank at Anglo Thermal Coal Greenside Colliery during October 2013. This installation was prompted as a result of the corrosive effect that the had on their mobile machines working underground.
The goal was extending the lifespan of the hydraulic components on the machines and the solution was to exceed the Anglo Ashanti ISO4406 standard of 13/10 cleanliness level.
The diesel at Anglo Thermal Coal Isibonelo Colliery was tested after a single pass through the PALL 619 20″ filtration systems and the results were impressive. Upstream of the filters a cleanliness level of 15/11 was recorded. Downstream of the filter after a single pass the cleanliness level achieved was 9/8.
Greenside colliery is situated 15km south-west of Witbank in Mpumalanga and forms part of the South African Coal Estates Complex (SACE), which includes Landau and Kleinkopje collieries.
The mine was established to supply coal to overseas markets through the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, as well as a small quantity of coal for domestic use. Its total output is 4.4 million run of mine tonnes a year which equates to 3.1 million saleable tonnes of coal. It has four underground continuous miner sections.
The installation consists of one UR319 PALL housing on the decanting side, as well as a UR319 PALL housing on the dispensing side. Both housings are installed with a UE319 12micron 40” element.
The Tellus 68 oil tank did not have any filtration installed and the mine was using hydraulic oil which was below the required standard. This caused unnecessary wear on machine parts. The PALL installation will reduce corrosion ad wear and increase lifespan on the machinery.
After the installation when the site was commissioned, the efficiency of the PALL filtration system clearly exceeded expectations.
